Few Maltese know legal blood alcohol limit for driving
A total of 96 per cent of Maltese respondents to a Eurobarometer survey are extremely uninformed about the allowed alcohol level in the blood while driving, saying that they did not know what the legal limit was.

Beating the binge
"It cannot be denied that Malta, like many other European states, has a binge drinking mentality, and this is unfortunately prevalent in teenagers," reports The Malta Independent.

Haziness about tobacco
The International Herald Tribune reports (8 June 2005) that Sweden last week became the latest country to outlaw smoking in all workplaces, including bars and restaurants, in the wake of similar bans enacted in Ireland, Italy, Norway and Malta. Hoping that this trend would continue, health experts and government officials at a conference here called Smokefree Europe 2005 sought to dispel a number of myths surrounding efforts to promote a smoke-free workplace.
